this is a much debated subject among supra owners. some say that the 7m is not as capable as the j series engines. this is based off of opinions formed by kids with no experiance who thing the motor is junk when they starve it of oil, beat on it, and it develops rod knock. just like any other motor. i say 7m all the way. its proven capable. a healthy stock 7m is capable of 500 wheel with toyota internals. rebuild it with spec’d bearings and a good crank, forged bottom end, and the 7m will take anything you can throw at it. 1j’s and 2j’s are more capable in stock form , but for less than the price of a full 1j swap, and for about the cost of JUST a 2j motor (not including the swap), you could have a fully built 7m. also, if your going v8, dont settle for anything less an an ls1
